Difference between Coding and Programming. If you are done learning any programming language then probably you are calling yourself a Programmer or Coder. And you are thinking why not call me coder or programmer, although these two terms are the same.

But do you know these two terms Programming and Coding are not that much the same to interpret them as one single term? This question Difference between Coding and Programming is frequently asked in tech interviews and that where the candidate get's confusing.

So now three questions are arising in your mind, which are What is Coding, What is Programming and the last and the funniest one Should I call myself coder or programmer. So let's understand first programming and then coding.

What is Programming?

 

What is Programming? So keeping things simple let's just understand programming first. 

Suppose your class teacher asked you had to write a program for an election commission. To check whether the voter is eligible for voting or not. Then you will write a program using your mind.

That means you will write logic that will check whether the voter is eligible for voting or not. So that means you are programming your code in such a way that it can perform an eligibility test on the voter.

Let's take another example, suppose you are holding a tv remote and you wanted to turn on the tv. You will press the button to make the tv turn on.

So the tv remote is programmed in such a way that, whenever it gets a push or input on the on/off button it will turn on and off the tv. So that is what programming is.

 

What is Coding?

 

What is Coding? Take the first example of the election commission again. In which you have to write a program on voting eligibility test. 

Suppose your class teacher has already given you the written program of voting test in a python programming language.

And now your teacher is asking you to write the same program but in java language and that is coding.

This means you are not using the logic or you don't have to think about how to program, instead you are just simply understanding the given code and writing the same in another language that is what we call Coding.

The last question.

What should you call yourself? It is simple if you are building your logic call yourself a programmer and if you are simply just translating the given code from one language to another call yourself Coder.
